OBARAYE ERHUMWUNSE EKE, The roving ambassador of ancient Benin Kingdom 1831-1946. A fearless war commander during the 19th century Benin proconsul's of Eastern Yoruba land. Role played in the restoration of Benin Monarchy OBA EWEKA II. OBA OF BENIN [1914-1933]. Chief Obaraye Igiebor Eke was born on 9th of May, 1831. Father was Igiebor Oguigo N'Erhunwunse of Ugoneki of the royal lineage of Oba Akengbuda of the "Delakun family" Benin lineage salutation.

Weddings

Ogusakin Omoregie Yesufu Eke (first son of Obazelu Eke):His friendship , love and devotion of Oba Eweka II was strong. Oba Eweka II, a discerning Monarch who knew how to bring the best out of his children and subjects; Realizing that prominent Benin Muslims were increasing in number and wanting to bring them within the Benin Traditional fold, he approved some chieftancy titles which they could hold without renoucing their Islamic religion. One of the titles was the Ajiroba of Benin which he conferred on his bossom friend Ogunsakin Omoregie Yesufu Eke who is the first ever Ajiroba of Benin. Also Oba Eweka II gave Ajiroba his daughter Uvbi Aimiana in marriage and they had three children. In addition he gave Ajiroba land at Ogbe the plot on which the Oredo Local Government Building now stands to construct a residence more befitting than his abode at No. 3 Ugbague street, Benin City

Ajiroba Yesufu Eke's Legacy

Ajiroba Yesufu had exceptional interest in Education and Benin History. This made him encourage adult education amongst his children, brothers, his wards and servants for formal education. At least four of his children / wards went to Kings College, a rare fit at the time. Y.Y. Eke his first son, Sule Eke, S.Y. Eke, A.Y. Eke, etc...
